Dark Thirst by Sara Reinke

It occurs to me when starting this that two of the books I’ve chosen to highlight with their own pages have a similar theme. Coincidence…I don’t know. Am I taken with the vampire theme? Who knows. I do know I have another crush on a vampire! Brandon…*sigh*

So…I’ve read another wonderful, well written engaging book! Dark Thirst is about Brandon who was born as one of the Brethren. When he goes through something really horrible as a child, almost his entire family turns against him, but they feel by his going through the bloodletting, he might redeem himself. Brandon absolutely refuses to do so and when his brother and the Grandfather discover his plans to leave his home, they punish him cruelly.

Lina is a tough cop whose older brother was Brandon’s teacher and who stumbles across Brandon when he manages to get away from his family home. She’s tough, street-wise and not quite sure of her feelings for the younger Brandon.

This book was so good with it’s inclusion of the beginning of a new love, the caring of the teacher and pupil, a different kind of cop/partner relationship, the introduction of the Brethren and the fight with a family that I was cheering loudly during.  I wrote to the author and asked “Please tell me something  horribly  divine happens to the Grandfather by the end of this!” Well, something didn’t, but I have HUGE hopes that in the next book, something will! He so deserves it!!

I am anxiously awaiting the story of Lina/Brandon and Tessa/Rene to continue in Dark Hunger. Great job Sara, kudos!!!
